A straight barbell size combines shaft gauge and wearable length. Gauge describes thickness, while length is measured along the exposed shaft between the ends' seating points. Industrial-style bars require an individually selected length; there is no single standard size for every ear. Use the chart below to compare catalog options, then confirm the complete variant.
Straight barbell size chart: catalog examples
The examples below were checked against Axis Titanium product options on September 24, 2026. They describe listed options, not universal placement recommendations or a promise of stock availability.
| Linked product | Gauge / nominal thickness | Listed lengths |
|---|---|---|
| Short straight barbell rods | 16G / 1.2 mm | 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 mm |
| Long straight barbells | 16G / 1.2 mm | 30, 32, 36, 38, 40 mm |
| Internally threaded barbell with crystal ball | 14G / 1.6 mm | 14, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22 mm |
A 16G × 32 mm specification means a nominal 1.2 mm shaft and a 32 mm length option. The ball or decorative end has its own dimensions. Do not read 16G as 16 mm, or assume every product in the collection offers every length in the chart.
How to measure straight or industrial barbell length
- Identify the points where the two ends seat against the straight shaft.
- Measure the exposed straight shaft between those points. Exclude the balls, decorative ends and projecting connection threads.
- Record shaft thickness separately, then record each end's outside size.
- Confirm the listing or drawing uses the same convention before comparing suppliers.
Do not measure an installed piercing to select a new size from this purchasing chart. An individual fit requires a professional piercer's assessment. The chart is for identifying and ordering jewelry specifications.
Is there a standard industrial piercing bar length or gauge?
There is no single gauge-and-length combination suitable for every industrial piercing. A catalog label such as “industrial bar” does not establish the distance between an individual's placements, their angle, or end clearance. Keep the measured length, shaft gauge, straightness and end dimensions together in the order record. A shorter bar is not automatically interchangeable with a longer one at the same gauge.
For example, the linked long-bar listing offers 30 through 40 mm in specified options. That range describes one product's selection; it does not establish a universal industrial size or imply that intermediate lengths are offered.
Gauge does not identify compatible ends
A 14G shaft is nominally thicker than a 16G shaft, but the external gauge does not tell you an internal thread's diameter or pitch. Match the bar and end by the exact supplier specification or approved SKU pair. Keep threadless and threaded components in separate compatibility records. See the connection-system comparison.
Wholesale order checklist
- Product URL and exact variant or SKU.
- Gauge, wearable length and measurement convention.
- End sizes, removable sides and confirmed connection.
- Material representation and applicable supporting documentation.
- Finish, complete assembly versus bar only, and pieces per pack.
Decorative height and surface-bar geometry are separate specifications. A 90-degree surface bar, a curved banana barbell and a straight bar should not share one size record simply because their listed length is identical.
